Heaven Touching Earth
If there are occasions during which the door is opened allowing us to see beyond the borders of time and space in to the realm of heaven and light, there are also occasions, as we have already seen, when this realm also breaks in to experience here on earth. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that there are times when we are privileged to see how, on a more regular basis than we truly appreciate, heaven acts and interacts within our time and space.
Another such incident is recorded in the life of Elisha, who was of course the servant and successor of the Elijah we have recently met on the mountain with Jesus, Moses, John, Peter and James.
At this moment in time Elisha is a wanted man and is tracked by a foreign invader to a city called Dothan where he and his servant are surrounded. We pick the story up in the Torah book of 2nd Kings –
“When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha. “Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.”
(2 Kings 6:15 – 17)
And it is no different today! In realms you and I cannot see are angels – mighty spiritual beings fighting for us. No wonder the Apostle Paul could say –
“If God is for us, who can ever be against us?”
(Romans 8:31-32)
To be continued …
